Michael Card has recently been one of the great voices of sanity in CCM. His objections to certain music industry policy and his strong stance on ministry over image has brought mixed reactions. His biblical knowledge and insight are almost certainly behind his stance, and here, together with Scotty Smith Card looks at the meaty and often scary book of Revelation. We are encouraged not to be afraid of the book, with its images of dragons and despair, but rather to find the book as a revelation of restoration and life. As Smith says, traditional teaching on the book of Revelation often makes us more aware of Satan and the strong power of evil rather than the wonderful power of the mighty God whom we serve and worship. Don't think for a minute that this book is guilty of trying to get the whole Apocalypse into a simplistic single idea... Card and Smith are aware of the perils of reductionism, however, it's a lot easier to read than say a commentary by G E Ladd. Praise, worship, overcoming evil, comments on the Church and more are linked with lyrics by Card (from the album of the same name) to paint a picture of hope for all of us. A blend of theology, art and practical pastoral encouragement are all found here, and hope for all of us have been beautifully unveiled in a fine devotional yet intelligent commentary for the regular guy.
