Reviewed by Jonathan Cairns Michael Gungor, perhaps best known for the song "Friend Of God" which he co-wrote with Israel Houghton, is a worship leader, singer and songwriter based in Denver. His band is comprised of not only friends, but also family, featuring his wife and brother. They refer to Sigur Ros, Chris Tile and Pete Yorn as being musical inspirations, and these inspirations are then uniquely used to worship God. The musical style effortlessly twists from song to song in a way that's endearing rather than awkward, showing the band to be exceptionally gifted. However, I've come to see this as an album of two halves. The songs in the first half are good, but just good: there's not a great deal that hasn't been done before. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but when "You Are The Light" kicks off the second half, it feels somewhat like an injection. The songs become quirky, unapologetic and, quite simply, brilliant. Apart from the excellent title track and "Prodigal", it's the second half which really stands out. Songs like "Glory Is Here" really are inspired music.
