Not to be confused with any other Michael Smiths with a letter in the middle, Virginia-based gospel singer Michael M Smith delivers his second album and this time it's a worship set which has plenty of time to stretch out into some sublime moments. There's the repeated climactic repeat of "our God is great. our God is great" which builds up the praise on the opening title cut. Then there's the drifting gentler worship of "No One Compares To You" and "Above All" and the strength of the album is highlighted right there. It's the way Smith combines his original songs with occasional well chosen covers to great effect. Other highlights include the moving "Long Walk From The Street" and the solid gospel high energy wig out on the cover of the Clara Ward classic "I'm Packin' Up". From start to finish, Smith is creating gospel worship which ministers without doing anything particularly revolutionary. But it has its moments.
