Very much reminiscent of the Fugees and even in places Alex O'Neal, Michaux is all about serious smooth soul, in particular close vocal harmony with jazz overtones. This is all self-written, performed and produced, with the express aim of breaking down barriers between soul funk and gospel. With the exception of the nifty "Love You The Right Way", the tempo is almost entirely downbeat, which is okay at first, but after a while starts to grate a bit. There's no doubting that this is a class package - check out the production on "All I Need" and "What You Wouldn't Do For Love", and MichauX is clearly one talented chap but by the end, I was finding it all a little bit samey.
