Originally an alternative rocker signed to Atlantic Records back in the day whose life fell apart fuelled by excesses, faith turned him around in a journey that hasn't always been plain sailing. His style of rootsy gospel and vocal passion has won him many fans and pointed to hope and redemption whilst managing to not become holier than thou. His latest is an infectious collection of grooves and gospel vibes topped by soul saving singing which is impossible to ignore. Nashville's Mike Farris deservedly won the Grammy for 'Shine For All The People' in the Best Roots Gospel Album category because this is gospel music at its finest. He is gifted with one of the great contemporary gospel voices and the album is packed with spine-tingling moments. From the groove of "Jonah & The Whale" through an updated version of "His Eye Is On The Sparrow" and the rootsy "Mercy Now", this is music to feed your soul! Check out the goose-bump inducing "The Lord Will Make A Way Somehow" or "Power Of Love" and it's impossible for your very soul to be left unmoved. Farris has hit rock bottom and sings like a man whose life has been turned around. These songs are born with a passion for hope and redemption for anyone who'll listen and he connects in a way that few singers are able to emulate. If only all Christian music was infused by this kind of power and belief.
