When I first put this CD on it immediately took me back to the late 1960s when I first heard the late great Merle Haggard. There is a likeness. Mo has such an easy to listen to, solid country voice, supported by a complimentary production from that ace country music producer Tony Brown. For one so young, this Illinois-based songsmith has a very reflective outlook on life. The opening track "Country" is almost a paean to what some of us would like to at least think represents some of life's real values. This reflection of old-time rural values is followed by the engaging ditties "It's Just A Dog" and "Boy And A Girl Thing". Mo's "I Met Merle Haggard Today" is a reflection of when he met his boyhood hero. The album closes with a moving rendition of the old gospel classic "Give Me Jesus". My only mild criticism of an otherwise excellent modern country album is that whilst it is extremely listenable. Mr Pitney is a breath of fresh country air. I really look forward to hearing a lot more of this extremely talented young man.
