Nancy Sawyer from Wiltshire is a lady I've known, and known about, for a good few years, especially since her 1999 album 'Walk', to which Mike Rimmer awarded eight squares in CR 53, talking about carefully crafted and spiritually communicative material. With regard to this 10-track CD, happily those comments still apply: production is once again in the hands of Phillip Goss of Appletree Studios and As If... fame, and Phil backs Nancy's piano with some sensitive and unobtrusive programming, guitars, bass and drums, and also brings in some real musicians to add flute, violin and saxophone. A good mix of song styles too: the mid-tempo opener "Down To Love" has some tasty electric guitar; the second track, "Love Is", canters merrily along with a faintly Celtic feel, thanks to the aforementioned violin, and there's a good slice of gentle piano ballads, "Always There" being a first-time fave. It's a worthy, if a little belated, follow-up to 'Walk' and it's a CD that I can recommend; I also happen to think that it's worth another eight squares .
