The New Creation Singers recorded eight albums between this debut in 1972 and their final release in 1981. With their visits to the UK it would appear that the ensemble from Waco, Texas also played some part, along with New Zealand's Scripture In Songs, in developing '70s worship in the UK. In an era before Spring Harvest, I can remember attending Dales Bible Week where this style of shorter snappy choruses with simple piano, guitar and organ instrumentation was considered to be the cutting edge of worship music as the charismatic movement was slowly gathering pace. Most churches had organ-led hymns and even the acoustic guitar hadn't managed to get a foothold in most churches. By today's standards, most of the tracks presented here sound simply terrible. Just listen to the out of tune instrumentation on "Unto Thee O Lord" to see what I mean. But such major musical deficiencies didn't stop the song becoming popular with more adventurous worshippers keen to break free from the rigid traditionalism of hymnody. But even sympathetic listeners will find it hard today to endure the horrible electric organ solo played here on "O Praise The Lord". Unfortunately, important musical history doesn't always leave us with good records.
