The young people at my church came back from last year's Newfrontiers' event fired up and this 12-song musical momento makes it easy to hear why. Catchy pop rock praise and worship songs, performed with energy and, where needed, sensitivity by the singers/worship leaders and no little rhythmic bite by the accompanying bands. Paul Oakley's odd adenoidal voice may not be to everyone's taste but his "Breathtaking" is a great opener. Less good is "Your Grace Is Enough". The song, penned by Matt Maher and Chris Tomlin, is attractive enough, if a tad formulaic, but the vocal by Siyoli Lusaseni sounds thin and unconvincing. I'm told that Simon Brading's "Going Your Way" was one of the "hits" of the event and with a careering tempo it is indeed just the kind of thing to get 5,000 young people at a racecourse (or indeed 50 young people in a church hall) punching the air as they pogo in the Spirit to the choppy guitar riff. All in all good, atmospheric rock worship which takes modern worship to no new places but is good enough to connect with large swathes of today's youth. One small note though to the sleeve designers, in future put the album lyrics on the sleeve in the order they appear on the album.
