Whole family worship is the aim of St Paul's church in Hammersmith: songs that both children and adults can sing together without either being marginalized. I can get behind this philosophy, it's one that I've seen before and when it comes together it can work extremely well. The 12 songs on this CD are not immediately accessible, which seems to be a feature of songs that Becky Drake sings, and it's not a bad thing; songs that hit the melody sugar vein too early end up sickly sweet. Songs that take a few listens to get into have more to savor in the long term. And while the songs are taking root in your psyche, Becky's breathy and quite exquisite voice is a joy to listen to and it's great to hear her again now that the fondly remembered Coastal Dune are no more. Let's hope there is another album on its way at some point. Nick sings a little too, though a little more work making his voice cut through the mix wouldn't be a bad idea. Neat production and thoughtfully arranged songs add quality helping the album sit nicely between children's and adult worship.
