This is the second album from an Oregon-based rock rapper who sometimes sounds a bit like Paul Wright. Touches of humour and a satirical vein in many of his lyrics indicate that Nik Fury doesn't take himself completely seriously. Fury is a good rapper and an okay singer, and his music is a mix of spoken verses, big sung choruses, pop-punk backing with a touch of synth for good measure. A mix of live drums and beats works well and the musicianship is competent, but the blend of styles seem to jar rather than complement each other - many of the songs here would work if Fury focussed on the beats more than the backing band. Eventually the disc becomes boring, one song sounding just like the next. This is possibly down to the production which just isn't, er, furious enough. I got the feeling that listening to this recording just probably doesn't do justice to Fury's live act. There's potential here; there's some strong material begging to be well recorded but there's not enough variety amongst the 15 tracks. So, while nothing's intrinsically bad about this package, it just struggled to make any lasting impact.
