With terrific past releases on Ian White's Little Misty Music like those from Grant Macaskill and Andrew Jenkins-Lamb, any new artist debuting on this Scottish label is bound to be worth checking out. 17-year-old Nikki Gardiner hails from Northern Ireland but now lives in Scotland. Growing up in a strongly musical family, Nikki recorded a kids album at the age of 10. Recently “rediscovered” by Ian White during one of his incessant touring schedules, Nikki signed up to a three-year record contract with LMM and Ian set about writing a batch of songs which would be acceptable to a young age group. He's done remarkably well - penning a wonderfully snappy set of tunes, each with potent message, which Nikki immediately related to and made her own. Songs are mainly in the acoustic pop category, with smart programming by White on keyboards, drums and all types of thoroughly slick guitar. Arrangements are kept simple and uncluttered, giving full air to Ms Gardiner's beautiful tones - with some choral backing here and there - and a maturity that belies her tender years. Catchy rhythms, great vocals/lyrics, this album could make a real impact.
