The long awaited successor to the "sanctified, funky, fun, get up and dance till you can't dance no more" Nitro Praise I continues into Nitro Praise II without pausing for breath and with an even funkier bottom end bass line that keeps on coming at you like a swarm of persistent bees. Some of those familiar Clubhouse Choir favourites reappear including Sandra Stephens with a voice that strips paint at 50 paces, plus the excellent Stephanie Watring and Gina. Nitro Praise II may lack the pioneering, mould-breaking impact of NP 1 but, sure as Jesus is Lord, will certainly not disappoint the faithful with its unashamed sop to traditional P&W. Subtle changes are the key to a prolonged lifespan, and Messrs Blackwell and De La Cruz have kept these to an absolute minimum. A male voice here and there, perhaps, but the songs are familiar if a touch less melodic than those on NP 1. I'll tell you this for nothing, however, Nitro Praise might well be targeted at the youthful clubhouse culture but old '60s fogies like yours truly are hooked line, rhythms and every driving beat.
