It's been almost 10 years since OneRepublic's "Apologise" hit the airwaves in 2007 and there's no sign that famed songwriter/producer Ryan Tedder and the lads are running out of steam on this, their fourth album. In fact, 'Oh My My' will keep Cross Rhythms supplied with playlist tracks for some time to come and two, "Wherever I Go" (described by one reviewer as "one of the year's underrated pop records") and "Kids" with its pulsing guitar and staccato vocals have already received lots of CR plays. OneRepublic have never been the kind of band which keepers-of-cool praise, predictably The Guardian called the album "catchy" and in the next breath "anonymous," which is incongruous considering Ryan's falsetto is one of the most recognizable sounds on pop radio. This is in many ways the band's most diverse project so far, ranging from the techno beats and electronic flourishes of "A.I." (that's short for Artificial Intelligence) where they are joined by '80s hero Peter Gabriel through to "Better" which with its blend of alternative rock and hip-hop has something of a Twenty One Pilots feel to it. They French deejay duo Cassius help out on one track but mainly it's the intuitive skills of Tedder which make this such an engaging album of pop, rock and dance.
