Pat Boone croons his way through 20 'favourite' songs and hymns. No disrespect intended - there is no doubt that he can sing. The accompaniments are very 70s: repetitive and very rhythmic piano parts, overused synthesized string sounds - librato chords and crescendoing semiquiaver runs, the all American back-up choir, all for effect. You will either cringe or love it, depending very much on your generation and your love or otherwise of nostalgia. There are some nice woodwind lines amidst all the over-intensity, and some effective guitar parts - notably the beginning of "Jesus Is Lord". "Let Me Live" is worth a mention if you can get through the slush and the twee American childrens' voices. Maybe there is a market for this sacharine easy-listening gospel. But not with me!
