Some albums are fast food, others take longer to deliver their rich variety of flavours. 'In The Long Run' is the latter, an album which doesn't try to impress with production trickery and pop hit bombast but woos the discerning listener with its thoughtful lyricism and musical intelligence. Not, of course, that hit songsmith Paul doesn't know his way round memorable pop hooks and catchy couplets. But with delicate piano, acoustic guitar settings he delivers insightful, haunting songs you know you'll be revisiting for years. Try the worshipful "God Of The Moon And Stars" where Paul sings of the "God of the junky and the priest", or his wistful rendition of "Testify To Love" (a huge US hit for Avalon a while back) or his thought-provoking reflection on the lives of Elvis and Lennon "Who Wants To Be The King Of Rock & Roll". Welcome back to the spotlight Paul. We've missed you.
