Not to be confused with his Belfast-born namesake (now known as Duke Special), Peter Wilson hails from Stoke-on-Trent, where he is part of the Faithways Ministry team. This debut outing for the English Mr Wilson is labelled as gospel but blurs into other genres as the album progresses - a bit of MOR here and a bit of rock there. Kicking off with "Angelic" there seems to be a fair bit of spoken word, but the music soon takes over and the Spirit gets hold of the singer and his backing musicians to sweep us into "Higher" and "Yes I Know" - all powerful songs, sung with passion and vitality. There's no doubting the fact that these are songs of worship, both lyrically and emotionally, and the listener is caught up in the tide of praise and devotion. The production is a bit basic in places and the singer's voice still has a few rough edges, but all 10 songs (including a reprise of "Yes I Know") are eminently listenable. Let's hope there is more to come from Mr Wilson.
