There's something about a John and Dino Elefante production which can make the most predictable AOR and the most run of the mill metal give off sparks. Not that Petra are Second Division. Like a lot of others I momentarily wrote them off once Greg Volz left, but in John Schlitt they've got a competently raucous shrieker while their full-throttle rock is much more effective now they've turned away from the synth emphasis and towards the pulsating power chords and overdrive of good ol' guitar-rock. Their ministry of the last year or two has reached new dimensions since their linking with evangelist/apologist Josh McDowell and this set, formulaic though it clearly is, so much passion and power just works with simple, decidedly simple, exhortations for believers to keep the faith don't need to be profound. Up to expectations.
