Petra need little introduction as they must be classed as one of the top Christian rock acts around. 'Rock Block' has 14 of this band's best loved rock classics, as well as a seven minute medley of Petra's greatest material, which opens the record. The material dates from 1982 to 1988 and is taken from seven of their albums. The album kicks off with a back-masked preaching (thankfully played forward) which proclaims "What are you looking for the Devil for/When you oughta be looking for the Lord?". This has to suggest what is to come from this album. Greatest hits albums are a double edged sword: for the diehard fan they have all the material except the medley track and for the vaguely interested it is a chance to discover what all the rave reviews have been about. As an introduction to the band this wins on all fronts; to those who have only recent material it is a chance to own a cross section of what Petra are famous for (ie, good solid rock). For the diehard fan only the bonus medley track will be new and whether that justifies the purchase of said item only you can decide (I have to admit to owning similar albums just because of such tracks). A good introduction to a band who place God on his throne.
