Take the turbulent alternative rock of Plankeye, mix in a touch of old school metal of Saint and you might get Plank Eyed Saints. Well not really. Plank Eyed Saints are a solo project from Illinois-based Gary Trimble and sound like a typical Thumper Punk Records band. So there's plenty of pogo-friendly rhythms and bawled vocals. As one of their song titles reminds us "It's Not Rocket Science" but it is exciting, raucous listening when played at max volume. But in truth it's all pretty one-dimensional and after 12 songs, even very short ones, one is likely to succumb to a feeling of déjà vu.
