The debut album, 'Cross The Line', by Jake Nauta and Daniel Georgiou, otherwise known as the unwisely named Playjerise, was a Christian hit in their native Australia. Little wonder when you consider the talent and focus of their music. Guitar and keyboard-driven riffs that spotlight pure beauty, matched by the gently soaring vocal lines, produce a huge, subtle sound. The current acoustic music market has been dominated by the solo artist, by the Paulo Nutinis and the Shawn MacDonalds: in tracks such as "Settle With Me" and "You And Your Eyes", this Blue Mountain duo have something fresh and creative to offer us. On the down side, there is not a huge range of musical variety demonstrated on the album. Guitar arpeggios feature largely in the album, often backed by ambient keys and a programmed drum track; over the top, unspecific and poetic lyrics sung with gentle candour. All very simple, really. You'll find little in the content that ties Nauta and Georgiou down to any belief-system; their spirituality, like their music, is a little elusive. But this is still an attractive album by a duo for those who enjoy thought-provoking pop.
