With six previous studio albums under their belts, Project 86 from Orange County have a large following of fans who will not be disappointed by this, their latest offering. Blending a range of styles into their own brand of hard rock, this recording continues to showcase lead singer Andrew Schwab's brutal vocals. His shouting style provides continuity between some varied tracks. The album opens with the menacing "Destroyer", driven by growling guitars and electronic accents; it paves the way for further offerings. Project 86 blend elements of metal and rock with hardcore tendencies to produce a relentless wall of sound. 'Picket Fence Cartel' also includes elements of punk in the angry "Cold And Calculated". The closing track is a mix of throbbing guitars, thoughtful acoustic breakdowns and anthemic chants. In what is probably Project 86's, most spiritual album to date, the lyrics are clear and full of hope. "You'll never kill him who lives inside of me" and "Who do I belong to? . . . Creator. Immortal. Eternal" are two perfect examples. This is inventive, polished rock that gives the listener plenty to consider.
