On 'Truthless Heroes', Project 86 have, like P.O.D. before them, developed a polished melodic exterior which betrays either a new found optimism (not reflected in the TV obsessed lyrics) or a break for the mainstream. Fans hoping for a development of the bleaker, denser elements found on 'Drawing Black Lines' will instead have to suffice with the incorporation of more than a few Linkin' Park/PAX 217 elements, particularly the multi-layered, FM friendly melody lines. All but vanished is the dark intensity found on 'Drawing Black Lines', save for "Another Boredom Movement" and "Bottom Feeder", the album's highlights and its two darkest moments. Not to deny that this set will have its charms for those currently enamoured with the candy-coated, shrink-wrapped, quick-hit aggression of nu-metal. 'Truthless Heroes' easily holds its own among genre populists like Papa Roach and Korn (even surpasses them), and deserves to be fantastically successful if fed through the same channels.
