Prophet appear to be a vehicle for Josh Doyle to demonstrate his potential as a songwriter/producer: although billed as a heavy rock band it appears that they have only recently started gigging and are very much at the beginning of the road both in terms of maturity and musical approach. The album appears to be more of a sampler than a cohesive whole and the tracks don't so much blaze forward with strident originality as gently meander through vintage phrases that saw their best miles out on the road to Emmaus. Lyrics such as "Woah, woah - you're an angel" did indeed cause me to call on the name of the Lord, though I doubt in the manner intended. If Prophet wish to live by the name they have chosen they must stop conforming to yesterday's vogue, spend a little time in the wilderness and return with a discernable personality of their own. But if they do, watch out.
