If I were to be aiming at a one word review apart from the fact that I've already blown it, straightforward would be by far the best choice for this collection of self-penned acoustic songs. Having the benefit of an excellent production, the sound is straightforward, basically acoustic with arrangements ranging from at simplest voice and guitar to fuller colours including some terrific violin and string quartet parts, all beautifully played. The playing on each track being effective in its simplicity and with lovely control of tone. Her songs are straightforward too, be they simply praising God, confessing weakness or encouraging the weary. Many of the songs do draw heavily from the Psalms which helps to give the songs a personal and intimate feel helped enormously by the lyrics delivery. My personal encouragement came from the outward looking song "Who Will Go?". When Rachel sings "I'm scared but I'll do it/I'll take your message to a hurting world" you know she has been there too. Perhaps my best recommendation is that I'll be seeking the music from some of these.
