Jesus music veterans Randy and Phil are both performers worth checking out in their own right. They are polar opposites in terms of their approach to performing - Keaggy is humble, focussed and a technically astounding guitarist; Stonehill is mostly hilarious, prone to flights of fancy, goofy comedy routines and banter with the audience. He frequently forgets where he is in a song and what parts he's meant to be playing - like a family friendly Robin Williams, his manic energy just avoids bordering on frustrating, but his charm and energy keeps the show on track. Phil Keaggy is an astounding guitarist, and his set is fascinating to watch - his songs are imaginative and his use of technology to layer tracks, beat rhythms and reverse guitar samples (all popular techniques now) still manages to result in original sounds and ideas. Solo Keaggy tracks are interspersed with solo Stonehill, and the DVD rounds up with a couple of songs that they play together, to give an entertaining and thought provoking 80 minute show. The extras from the night are fun, and the documentary on Compassion (in whose aid the concert was arranged) is worth a watch too. If you're fans of both or either of these veterans, this is worth checking out.
