Welcome to the new sound of hip-hop, direct from the so called Dirty South. This energetic release from the Florida native Rawsrvnt is sure to get you up on your feet and moving. Combining a positive message with certified "crunk" beats, this album has a sound not dissimilar to that of mainstream artists such as Lil' Jon or the Ying Yang Twins, minus the explicit content. There is no shortage of hype, however, from an MC's point of view, with some songs lacking real lyrical depth, suffering from predictable rhymes and unoriginal concepts. This album never strays far from its crunk roots, with stock synths on "Bows Up" and plenty of shouts and typically frantic hi-hat on "I'm Still A Soldier". This being said, there is a softer, more soulful side of the artist exhibited on tracks such as "Extravagant" and "St8 Up Awesome" mixing rap with smoother R&B styles. 'Makin' Moves' will appeal principally to Southern-hip-hop lovers. Unfortunately, not all of the 17 tracks achieve a good sound and often appear to be attempts at recreating a popular style. There is nothing terribly new or creative to be heard, but there can be no doubt that this music is modern, fun and infused with the Gospel.
