Reviewed by Elliot Rose Hailing from Quispamsis, New Brunswick, Rekoncyle are producing some of the richest Christian music coming out of Canada. Formed originally in 2009, the band have already been through a fair few line-up changes, but currently consists of Matt (guitar), Amy (keys), Andrew (bass) and Shane (drums). Their debut album 'Resolution' features 11(ish) self-penned tunes, and after stalling on the 50-second "Above All We See", it kicks off with one of the standout tracks "Redesign Inside", which deservedly appears on the album twice. Although their radio hit "Running Out Of Air" and fan-favourite "Free Again" show off some quality lead guitar work, much of the album seems to merge into a mass of overdrive and distortion. The acoustic "Strengthen His Wings" brings a nice change of pace, but the standout track for me is "Turn Away"; despite the plonky piano, it's possibly the most passionate and melodic track on the disc - the build up to the climactic finish is outstanding, boasting passionate vocals from Matt and Amy. The gritty rhythm guitar, deep bass and hefty drumming define the tone of the whole band, but I feel Amy's keyboards are a little underused and could have added an extra dimension to an overall solid studio performance.
