This, we're told is "an exciting new Black Gospel album, captivating the vision and ministry of Remission Choir". Well, I'll leave the exciting bit up to you to decide. The album does have some decent grooves, in particular the LA and Babyface-inspired "Last Move". But producer Steve Thompson would have worked better with solo vocals I think. The ensemble arrangements just don't cut it on dance tracks. Remission's interpretation of Graham Kendrick's March for Jesus anthem "Shine Jesus Shine" starts rather lamely, but improves as it goes on and by the time it gets to the jazzy instrumental break it does indeed shine. Another cover (Renee Garcia's) "Deepest Love" I found a bit of a disappointment. Best track for me was the reggae-ish "This Is The Day", which, like the funkier offerings, would have sounded much better with only one or two people singing the chorus, rather than the entire choir. On the whole, not a bad album from the Walsall-based choir but nothing spectacular. Still, it should go down well with those who caught the choir at this year's Spring Harvest.
