This album is Remove The Veil's first and last, it appears, since they have decided to call it a day after numerous line-up issues. Will they be missed? Quite possibly is the answer. With a blistering sound reminiscent of Cancer Bats or the (previously) excellent Raging Speedhorn, Remove The Veil added another layer to that sound by soaking it in the whiskey of the Southern USA from which they hail. The guitars are big 'n' dirty, the bass fattens every riff to champion pie-eater proportions and the drums lick everything along nicely. Vocals come from the impressively raw throated Hendrix, his endeavours sounding suitably urgent and chaotic amongst the runaway mine-train riffs. But Beyond The Veil's best moments seem to come when they kick back and go all Southern on us, with a more chilled out sound and a good time rock 'n' roll vibe injection, such as on, funnily enough, the title track. The melodies and clean vocals, when used, are hook laden and rather nice. All in all, it's an accomplished record and one that would have served as a fine base from which to launch their career. Alas, Beyond The Veil RIP.
