Alabama-based Revelation X combine youthful exuberance, heavy riffs, a bit of screamo and some great melodic vocal lines to create a dynamic rock/hard music fusion that is hard to pigeon hole. The opening "Salvation" sets the scene well with its grunge guitar riff and clean vocals leading into a screamed chorus that deliver a clear call to salvation. This is not a band to hide its colours and the lyrics are quite openly evangelistic and delivered with clarity by Tisha. There are some wonderful hooks here, such as the chorus to the title track and the quieter ballad, "Forgiveness" is handled just as well as the full bore "Going Home" and the standout "Not Alone". The production is excellent bringing the melodies, vocal and guitar harmonies out beautifully. While comparisons with the likes of Evanescence would be easy to make, in truth the music here is far less dark while the deft balancing of hard music attack and radio friendly hooks makes this one of the most original releases of the year. Remember the name, Revelation X could go far.
