This is a showcase EP primarily for Reza-Rec, with rapper Disciple slipping in two tracks. Growing up in Boston amongst a rough culture of gangs and drug dealers, Robert Connoly (Reza-Rec) has a very real background to draw from in his music. The tracks reflect this, sounding like a freedom, wake-up call to people trapped in an oppressive street culture. Initiating many "call-response" type lyrics over big, bouncy beats, Reza-Rec is impressive on the few tracks represented here, with Disciple following in a similar manner. Every number is big and hyped up, which is powerful, but leaves me wondering if this artist can deliver the more eclectic sound needed to carry an album. The production is also slightly weak, giving this a demo-quality feel. However, Reza-Rec and Disiple clearly have a strong motivation behind their lyrics and beats, making this a valuable sample of things to come. Keep your eyes and ears on this one.
