Australian combo Rhubarb may be a new name in this hemisphere but they've knocked out a powerfulpop rock album with plenty of edgy moments. From the opening 'Zero', it's clear that strong melodies and plenty of jangly guitars are the order of the day with a touch of Britpop on songs like 'Holiday'. The addition of string on the beautiful slower 'Do Do Do' only adds oodles of atmosphere whilst the frentic 'Exerciser' has one of the hooky choruses that wont leave you alone. Thanks guys! Musically not as turgid as some of the dated Oz rock that I've heard in the past, this has a fresh, more British sound. A song like the edgy 'Waiting For Me' and the fun rock and roll of 'Nice Girls' simply show that Rhubarb are a tight band capable of making compelling music that makes both band and CD well worth exploring.
