This is the first album from Richard Smallwood since 2005. After the gospel star's mother died, he found songwriting difficult for a period of time. However, now Richard has been inspired to write a set of new songs, many based on the current troubles facing the world. This most gifted of gospel composers points the listener towards the promises of God rather than the depressing media messages which bombard us. These promises are reflected most melodramatically with the booming voice that opens the album on "Prelude Of Promise", quoting Scripture but sounding like a low budget film from the '50s! However, things quickly pick up. "God Of Promise", with the smooth, inspiring, foot tapping, gospel sound familiar to many, is hugely effective and it's followed by a series of strong songs. In fact, there is not a poor cut here and with Richard bringing such guests as Donald Lawrence on "Facts Are, Truth Is" and Lalah Hathaway on "Praying For Peace" to complement his amazing Vision choir, the performances are top rate. It is inspiring to see a major artist rise up to the challenge of building up God's people.
