Were it not for their two female vocalists, Rite Choice could be re-named "Commissioned 2 - The Next Generation". Mike Brooks is in the producer's seat, sharing songwriting duties with some of the group's members, and he's obviously a major influence. They sing very well and are backed by some top class musicians, but the album didn't do an awful lot for me. After a while, it sounded sort of heard-it-all -before, both musically and lyrically. I know we need to keep remembering the basic Gospel truths, but we're also told to leave the elementary teachings about Christ and go on to maturity (Hebrews 6:1). This just isn't happening in black Gospel (except in the Rap department). A little musical variety (a rock guitar solo, for instance) wouldn't hurt either; this New Jack Swing's fast becoming an Old Hat Thing. On the plus side, they have a lot of potential, which I'm sure will develop over the next few records and gigs.
