It's always hard to critique albums like this. 'Heaven Sent' is well intentioned enough, but falls down in equally important areas such as production and performance. Robert's voice doesn't really lift things above the distinctly average, the sound is painfully '80s power-pop (think Starship) except with programmed drums which are less than helpful, and the lyrics are bordering on the cliched. Moreover, the mix is a little eccentric with loud keyboard patches and even louder backing vocals appearing here and there. I'm so sorry to have to say all this, as the heart behind them is commendable. As it is, though, these songs just don't cut it.
