Billed as an instrumental piano album this is quite obviously ICC's answer to the Keith Routledge end of the market, and the news is that it succeeds. Roger is indeed a pianist of great class. This though is very much a different kind of class to Keith's. Where Keith's is highlighted by a lightness of touch to his playing, there are some exceptionally beautiful moments on both of his Kingsway recordings to date, 'Strangely Warmed' is more commercially accessible. Somehow Keith's playing fits more with the video end of the market whilst Roger's is very much in line with what you might expect to hear down at your local church, although of far superior quality. Best of a terrific set are "There Is A Redeemer" (I was singing along with every line in Christian Karaoke style) and "The Day Thou Gavest". If you like Christian music played brilliantly on piano, forget the Claydermans of this world; get hold of albums by either Routledge or this one by Roger Mayor. Or what about getting both of them together?
