With a subtitle 'A Collection Of Smooth Jazz Hymns' and Sam's CV, which includes hundreds of sessions for Brentwood Music, it's hardly surprising that this album is full of technical competence without really sparking into life. A tight little fusion jazz band (irritatingly uncredited on the sleeve) keep some mildly funky rhythm on oldies like "Nothing But The Blood", "Be Thou My Vision" and "Crown Him With Many Crowns" while Sam blows with soulful assurance on tenor, alto and, occasionally, soprano sax. But despite all the competence it still sounds formulaic.
