'Deeper' is the debut mini-album from an Ontario-based worship leader and was recorded with producer Marcel Preston after a crowd-funding campaign. The bulk of the material here was written for use during Sathiya's regular worship sets at Catch The Fire Ministries, Toronto (the original source of the Toronto Blessing of the early '90s). "Call Upon Me" and "Power Of Your Presence" follow the familiar pattern of many current modern worship releases with a musical backdrop of rocking guitars, driving beats and electronic elements. Unfortunately the formulaic lyrics and over-repetition of the hook lines spoil proceedings and set a precedent for much of what is to follow. Things are slowed down for the atmospheric, stripped-back "Let Your Fire Fall" - a plea for God to move- overrunning again due to repetition. "Deeper" brings some variation: a pleasant, bright number, seeking after God - Sathiya joined here by the tender vocals of Sarah Rideout. There is no doubting Sathiya's passion for God and heart for worship but the sound on "Deeper" often overwhelms his vocals. A debut with glimpses of promise.
