Searching For Pie formed from songwriting brothers Neil and Gary Frost, who teamed up in 2011 to write and produce this, their debut album, along with session drummer Charlie Kenny. According to their website they have been touring through this year and in a live context are a six-piece band. Musically they are very eclectic, with many stylistic references and considerable diversity between songs; eg, "Into The World" sounds like Travis, "Call Me" has an '80s Curiosity Killed The Cat vibe, "Facebook" could be Deacon Blue, a couple of tracks have a '90s Manchester sound, and so on. Arguably it could be suggested from this that they haven't yet found and settled into their own musical niche. . .I'm sure they'd be great as a covers band! The songs are well written, performed and recorded, with a good mix of acoustic and electronic elements, demonstrating a high level of musicality. However, I'm wondering why I'm reviewing it for CR, as the lyrics are very obtuse. Maybe I've missed something but some lines are so crossover as to have fallen into the chasm. . . "You've got the love, baby you're my drug/I feel so cold, baby warm me up" and such like is not what I would call inspirational at any level!
