Recorded in Auckland, New Zealand, the anonymous CD billing hides the identity of pianist Kris Baines. What you get is precisely what it says on the tin (sorry, sleeve). 19 classic hymns played and arranged for "instrumental solo piano" (though one wonders what other kind of solo piano there could be). Elegantly played piano renditions of "When I Survey The Wondrous Cross", "Just As I Am" and "O Love That Wilt Not Let Me Go" is hardly an innovative idea but no one could deny Mr Baines' sensitive touch on the concert grand. For some this album will be a gentle aid to meditate on the Godhead, to others a thoughtless example of Christian muzak. It's all down to perspective really.
