Gospel trio The Sensational Nightingales might have been around the block a few times (would you believe Greybeard Cummings bought a Sensational Nightingales EP when he was 11?!) but on this new recording the fire is still burning as they continue to minister through song. If classic gospel music is what you enjoy, then you'll probably already be familiar with the 'Gales' style. Reminiscent of Blind Boys or Canton Spirituals or a host of other groups who've grown old singing gospel, these are simple songs delivered with passion and a desire to leave the listener challenged and encouraged. The lessons of "So Heavenly Minded (No Earthly Good)" or the warnings on "Workers Of Iniquity" may sound a little quaint to modern ears but there's still something special going on here. Tight singing, simple arrangements and plenty of history, somehow this traditional approach still manages to survive all the changes that are happening in gospel. Maybe it's the purity of intent, maybe it's just that The Sensational Nightingales aren't impressed by all those new kids on the block!
