This CD leaves me stuck between two extremes. On the one hand I like the lyrics and tunes on offer across the 14 tracks but, bizarrely, the album becomes boring to listen to after a while. Most of the tracks fall into one of two categories. Firstly, there is guitar-driven indie pop which is generally quite catchy and uplifting, even though it maybe doesn't match the pizzazz and punch of something like K's 1995 offering Sense. Secondly, there are a few ballads which are more acoustic, adding some strings and keyboards to the equation. Here the sound is reminiscent of some Jars Of Clay material. One thing which impressed me was the lyrics. In Send The Beggar we have a Christian band who openly speak about being in a worshipful, personal relationship with God, and who endeavour to sensitively show the struggles that this brings, when trying to apply and share this faith in the real world. Maybe once the band display more originality, or improve the perfomance or production, Send The Beggar could become well worth looking out for.
