Got to confess I am a bit of a confused reviewer here, mainly because the sleevenotes on this CD don't actually tell me who Serenity are. There are four ladies on the cover whose names are not given on the inside. Then there are a total of five different lead vocalists listed so it's a bit of an enigma. Together, Serenity's independently produced American CD doesn't set me on fire. Their voices blend OK and their solo work is full of passion though sometimes I found it jarring with me. And there's the rub! These songs are all very good and the production is clear - all the elements are in place but the album overall fails to really grab my attention. It just goes to show with all the fuss about American gospel being better than the British stuff, when it comes to independently created projects, even the Americans are capable of creating clunkers.
