Having enjoyed the original Smokey Mountain series, I couldn't really see the point of a new recording featuring many titles covered in the previous releases. This is all instrumental music played on hand crafted acoustic mountain instruments, but now we have in addition mountain doggers and some Nashville strings. I must admit that I was dubious how this would sound but I must say I think it works quite well. I particularly enjoyed "Farther Along" and the rather amazing revamping of "Amazing Grace". The extra accompaniment gives the album more of a Celtic than country feel, but it is hard to see how this is going to sell to people who have bought the original albums.
