Mentored by respected worship songwriters Jarrod Cooper and Angie Lendon, Hull-based gospel worship artist Sooter Nomhwange has released his debut mini-album under the auspices of experienced producer Andy Green. In fact, as hinted at in the sleevenotes, Green's expertise takes Sooter's fairly standard offerings and turns them into a pleasing collection of songs that seek to glorify God at every turn. The undemanding and breezy pop sound - very much in the Lighthouse Family mould with African elements woven in - provides the perfect backdrop to Sooter's warm and gentle voice and, whilst there is an overarching familiarity and predictability to each song's lyrics and chord structures, tracks like "I Say Yes" and the gospel choir-backed "Power In Your Name" come across as sincere expressions of worship to God. Featuring a cameo from rapper Kabelo Marape, the reggae-tinged "I Will Follow Him" is arguably the highlight of this enjoyable enough release.
