Soul Keeper are a 3-piece hard rocking outfit from California and this demo is their first excursion into a studio. Sadly it shows! To these ears the band are stuck somewhere between the commercial hard rock sound of Queensryche or Sacred Warrior and the more intense metal of, say, Megadeth, and that is where the first problem lies. None of the four songs on offer here jump out of the speakers and grip your attention. Despite being recorded in a 24 track studio, the sound quality is little short of terrible. I've heard better from 4-track recordings. There is little to redeem things within the band's own performances. There are some neat guitar tricks and licks from San Han, but they tend to get lost within the poor quality of recording. Steve Alvardo's vocals are not up to scratch either. Though reasonably intelligible, his voice is flat and lifeless. Sorry guys.
