A native of Little Rock, Arkansas, sports a nice soulful voice – imagine a cross between Darryl Coley and Marvin Winans - Stephen clearly has considerable talent. Also, Denver J Wright does a pretty good job in programming up some funky rhythms while a small choir of sistahs make with the backings. “Come Child” is a nicely soulful ballad, while the opener “Joy” stomps along nicely. But lyrically, it seldom lifts beyond standard praise/gospel cliché. One can’t fault the sincerity of Stephen’s praises or the assured quality of his emoting, but this is still a release only hardcore gospel collectors will be drawn to.
