Steve Hall was once a messed up punk rocker playing in Britain and abroad in bands like The Afflicted and The Accursed. He made half a dozen albums and recorded a few singles too but the heroin addiction that went with the territory meant that when a friend told him about Jesus in the '80's he was ready to listen. Years later and this new creation is making a different sort of music. This four-track CD is a million miles from the music of his youth with acoustic and gentle songs of faith. Sadly, whilst these are delivered with competence and are nicely produced on a slender budget, there's nothing new here. Songs about Jesus knocking, walking on water or love never failing are reoccurring themes that need a special something to make them stand out. I can imagine in a live setting when Steve plays in prisons that these songs have a greater impact. Sadly, these are too ordinary on CD to make an impact, though at the bargain price you might want to send Steve the money to support his fine prison ministry.
