Here's an album by the head of music of a performing arts college in the south of England produced by another musician from those parts, Simon Goodall. Clearly Steve is a talented songwriter and a proficient singer so the results are pleasant on the ear with big harmonies and catchy tunes. However I can't help the feeling that this sounds like the sort of nice pop record that Simon himself would have made a few years back. Lyrics that are designed to provoke and encourage the Church and music that is light enough to fit into even the most traditional of churches, this is the ideal vehicle to create openings for ministry. Steve has a lot to say and communicates clearly but I'm still left with the feeling at the end of the album that however proficiently produced, there is still something missing and that the album is a little too samey to be memorable or make an impact on my soul. To be honest, it sounds like something that Dave Pope might have recorded in 1978. The best word to describe this is "nice".
